Mrs. Mildred J. (Mickey) McDonald, age 86, of Gainesville, Ga., passed away Sunday, May 6, 2012, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at Montgomery Memorial Baptist Church in Gainesville with interment to follow at Gateway Memorial Gardens in Cleveland, Ga. The Rev. Darryl Womack and the Rev. Terry Rice will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, 2012, at Memorial Park North Riverside Chapel.

Mrs. McDonald was born in Gainesville, Ga., Dec. 30, 1925, and was the daughter of the late Arthur T. and Mamie (Gilmer) Edwards. She graduated from Gainesville High School. She then moved to Atlanta and played semi-pro softball and basketball. She graduated from the University of Georgia Business College. In 1954 Mickey and T.J. moved to Cleveland where they raised their daughters. She served as the first female elected White County Commissioner from 1983-1984 and again from 1987-1988. She was a member of Montgomery Memorial Baptist Church and a former member of Cleveland First Baptist Church. Mickey was active in her community in both civic and political aspects. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, T.J. McDonald; siblings, Estelle Jones, Clara Taylor, Ruby McGhee, Gladys Edwards, Lounette Guest, Gilmer Edwards and J.D. Edwards.

She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Chery and Lyn Holcomb of Cleveland; Lisa and Jim Marcengill of Clarkesville; granddaughters and husbands, Happy and Carl Volle; Mendi and Wesley Loggins; grandson, Jay Holcomb and granddaughter, Misty Patton; great-grandchildren, Andie Claire Schlegel; Alec and Luke Volle; Ava Kate Volle, Skylar Loggins and Sawyer Loggins; and a number of other family and friends also survive.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to Montgomery Memorial Baptist Church Benevolent Fund, 1210 W. Ridge Road, Gainesville, GA 30501.
