Nancy J. Fuchs, 81, of Gainesville died Jan. 1, 2013, after a brief illness.|
Nancy was born to the late Gerard and Almeda Wennemer Aug. 17, 1931, in Convent Station, N.J. She graduated from Bernardsville High School in 1949, and received a B.A. in Art from Drew University in 1953, a M.Ed. from the University of Georgia in 1977, and her Ed. S. in 1979, both from the University of Georgia. She married the late George L. Fuchs in 1965, and they lived in Mendham, N.J., and Severna Park, Md., before relocating to Gainesville, Ga., in 1971.
Nancy was a high school teacher and a middle school counselor for over 30 years and was passionate about making a difference in the lives of children and her community. She mentored children and was active in several local organizations: Rape Response, Family Relations Program and BULLI, both as an active supporter and Board member.
Nancy was a founding member and past president of Georgia Mountains Unitarian Universalist Church. She loved to cook and often was requested to host dinners and gatherings. She loved to travel and did so frequently with her late husband, George, and after his death, with her daughter, Lauren. She was an active rug hooker, belonging to ATHA rug hookers guild.
Nancy is survived by her three children, Lauren Hinton of Dawsonville, Whitney and Leslee Fuchs of Gainesville, and Eric and Estee Fuchs of Gainesville. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Andrew Hinton, Emma and David Brew, Lowell Fuchs, and Paulouis and Celeste Marie Fuchs.
A memorial service is planned for noon, Jan. 5, 2013, at the Georgia Mountains Unitarian Universalist Church at 439 S. Park St., Dahlonega, GA. Flowers will be accepted at the church Saturday morning or donations can be made to GMUUC building fund.
