Mr. Roy Merritt, age 81, of Clermont, Ga., passed away Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013, at the Bell Minor Nursing Home in Gainesville.

Memorial services are scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013, at Memorial Park North Riverside Chapel; the Rev. Clack Stubbs and Johnny Latty will officiate. The family will receive friends from 5 until the service hour on Thursday at the funeral home.
Mr. Merritt, a native to Hall County, was born on March 22, 1932, the son of the late T.J. Merritt and Mae Annie (Jerdon) Merritt. He served in Army National Guard and was retired from Southern Railroad following 30 years of service. He was a member of Clermont Masonic Lodge No. 512, Lanier Shriner Club and American Legion Post No. 7. Mr. Merritt was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Gainesville. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Frances Smith; and brother, Vergil Merritt.
Mr. Merritt is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Shelba Merritt; son, Terry Merritt, Gainesville; grandchildren, T.J. Merritt, Matt Merritt, Emily Roper, Chase Roper, Alex Phillips, Caleb Phillips; great-grandchildren, Gray Phillips and Jaxson Roper; brother, Billy Merritt, Flowery Branch; special friends, Martha Askew, Mary Nell White, Doug Hawkins and Bertha Hammond.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to Eagle Ranch, P.O. Box 7200, Chestnut Mountain, GA 30502.
