Ralph Walter Brechter, age 79, of Gainesville passed away on May 5, 2014, at his residence following an extended illness.

Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, May 8, 2014, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home with internment to follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. Phil Carpenter and the Rev. Darin Vogt will officiate. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 6, 2014, from 6-9 p.m. and Wednesday, May 7, 2014, from 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Brechter was born on Jan. 1, 1935, in Juneau, Wis., to the late Bill Brechter and Doris Bentz Brechter. He retired from the U.S. Army and also Allied Van Lines. He was of the Lutheran faith and also attended faithfully Chicopee Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters.
Master Sgt. Brechter retired and served 20 years with the U.S. Army Airborne Division and served one tour in Korea and two tours in Vietnam. He was also a highly decorated veteran with numerous Bronze Stars and Army Commendations with Valor. He was a loving husband, daddy, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather. He was loved by his Chicopee Church family and Corinth Church family where he will be greatly missed. His family loved him and he will always live in their hearts.
Mr. Brechter is survived by his wife, Louise Cowart Brechter of Gainesville; daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Jerry Moore; sons and daughters-in-law, Ronnie and Becky Brechter, and Billy and Kathy Brechter, all of Gainesville; 11 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren.
