Charles Edward Rodgers, age 92, of Gainesville, formerly of Sautee, passed away Thursday, May 22, 2014, at Lanier Village Estates.|
Mr. Rodgers was born Nov. 27, 1921, in McComb, Miss., to the late John Alvin Rodgers and Eva Mae Dunn Rodgers. He was a member of Cleveland First Baptist Church. Mr. Rodgers was a retired commander for United States Navy, having served in World War II. He was a naval pilot, flying for air and sea rescue and submarine hunters.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Wylma "Jewel" Rodgers, Gainesville, formerly of Sautee; daughters and sons-in-law, Lea and Jim Perkins, Dawsonville; Mindy and Michael Harrison, Fraser, Colo.; sons and daughters-in-law, Ted and Susan Rodgers, Atlanta; Bruce and Kate Rodgers, Sautee; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Sunday, May 25, 2014, from the Chapel of Barrett Funeral Home. The Rev. Dennis Turner will officiate. Interment will follow at Yonah View Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 2-2:30 p.m. Sunday prior to the funeral service.
