Rachel Eunice Murphy, age 74, of Gillsville passed away on Thursday, June 26, 2014, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following an extended illness.

Funeral services are scheduled for Sunday, June 29, 2014, at 5 p.m. in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home with interment to follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. Johnny Knight will officiate. The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 28, 2014, from 3-5 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Murphy was born Sept. 16, 1939, in Homer, Ga., to the late Floyd Whitlock and Clara Mae Gowder Whitlock. She was retired from Fieldale Farms and was a member of Pond Fork Baptist Church. Rachel was preceded in death by her parents; her sons, Kenneth Bryant, Rickey Bryant and Steven (Fatback) Bryant; brothers, Benson Whitlock and Branson Whitlock; and her sister, Ethel Riley.
Mrs. Murphy is survived by her husband, Walter Murphy of Gillsville; her children, Jeffery (Rebecca) Bryant of Gainesville, Becky (Shane) Black of Gainesville, Diane (Clayton) Helton of Gillsville, Linda (Dennis) Turpin of Gainesville, Brenda Turpin of Gainesville, Stephanie Brophy of Gainesville; her brothers, Gordon Whitlock of Apple Valley, Ga., Swayne Whitlock of Gastonia, N.C., Roy Whitlock of Jefferson; sister, Mary Frances Johnson of Jefferson; 22 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
