Laura Virginia Hildebrand Shead, 94, of Cleveland passed away Monday, June 30, 2014.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 3, 2014, at Memorial Park North Riverside Chapel with interment to follow at Old Providence Baptist Church Cemetery in Sandy Springs, Ga. The Rev. Jack E. Chalmers will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2014, at the funeral home.
Born in the Oak Grove District of Sandy Springs, Ga., on Oct. 11, 1919, the daughter of the late John Calvin Hildebrand and Leila (Barron) Hildebrand, a well-known Sandy Springs family. She was employed for many years at Davison's Department Store, now Macy's. She was a charter member of Faith Memorial Assembly of God Church in Atlanta and was a leader in the children's department. She and her husband, Thomas, resided in Forest Park, Ga., where she remained after his death, later relocating to Gainesville, Ga. For the past several years she has resided at the Gateway Center in Cleveland, Ga. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Thomas B. Shead; sister, Sarah Blanche Hildebrand; and a brother, Hugh Willard Hildebrand.
Mrs. Shead is survived by her two sons, Jack W. McConnell (Melanie) and David A. McConnell (Anita - deceased); seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
