Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014, at Ward's Funeral Home Chapel for Henry C. House, age 91, of Gillsville. The Rev. Rodney Hall will officiate. Interment will follow in the family cemetery next to Gillsville Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 3-5 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Mr. House passed away Wednesday, July 30, 2014.
Mr. House was born on May 6, 1923, in Webster County, Ga., to the late Blanton House and Maude Cagle House. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and retired from General Motors in 1982 after 30 years of service. He served as mayor of Gillsville for 42 years. He enjoyed hunting, cattle auctions, the Atlanta Braves, and he loved Mema's cooking.
He was preceded in death by his grandson, Bobby McClure; brothers, Roy House, Gillsville, Toby House, Lula, and Lewis House, Gainesville.
Survivors include his loving wife of almost 72 years, Louise Holcomb House; son, Frank House, Gillsville; daughter, Janice House Morgan and husband Kent, Gillsville; daughter, Millie House McClure and husband Tony, Dacula; grandsons, Glenn House and wife Margaret, Blake House and wife Betsy; granddaughters, Cheryl McClure Hall and husband Rodney, Jessica Morgan Lance and husband Junior, Lindsey Morgan Taibl and husband Matt; 12 great-granddaughters and one great-grandson; brother, David House and wife Frances, Gainesville; sisters-in-law, Milford House, Gillsville, Evelyn House, Lula, Susie House, Gainesville; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. With a legacy of 17 girls in the family, each one had a special place in his heart as "Papa's Girls."
