Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, announces services for Guynita Smith Farmer, age 80, of Gainesville, who went to her heavenly home on August 7, 2014, following an extended illness.

Funeral services are scheduled for Sunday, August 10, at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home with interment following in Grey Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Benji Boone will be officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday August 9 from 6-9 p.m.
Mrs. Farmer was born on April 29, 1934, in Athens to the late Floyd A. Smith and Gertrude Embrick Smith Green. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Howard Eugene Waldrop and Donald J. Farmer.
Mrs. Farmer is survived by a son, Danny E. (Connie) Waldrop of Talmo; daughter, Debbie L. (James Larry) Farmer of Gainesville; brother, Leo (Billy) Smith of Commerce; three grandchildren, Shane (Linda) Waldrop, Donovan (Heather) Waldrop, Alan (Shanda) Farmer, and eight great-grandchildren.
Guynita was retired from the Hall County Health Department after 34 years of service. Her early years of employment included Harmony Grove Cotton Mill and Blue Bell Overall Factory where she honed her skills of being a master seamstess. She also worked for General Times of Athens and City Ice Company of Gainesville. She was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church and most recently attended Sugar Hill Baptist Church, where the love of family and friends filled her retirement years.
