Allen Payne Long, 76, of Gainesville, Ga., died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012.|
Allen Payne Long was born in Atlanta on July 31, 1936. He graduated from Emory University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics, where he was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order.
He married Carol Dinkler Weekes.
Mr. Long initially retired from Wachovia Bank as Senior Vice President and Senior Trust Officer; and then began his second career at Fidelity National Bank as Vice President in Trust and Investment Services. Mr. Long was a member of several service clubs and organizations, including Rotary Clubs of Buckhead and Gainesville; Brenau University Board of Advisors; and Atlanta Historical Society. He was a member of the Gainesville First United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Carol Payne Long Power and Warren Randall Power; daughter, Claire Elizabeth Long; and son and daughter-in-law, Allen Payne Long, Jr. and Melissa Turner Long; grandchildren Robert Wesley Power, Elizabeth Payne Power, Olivia Weekes Long, Emily Catherine Long and Edward Allen Long; brother and sister-in-law, Colonel and Mrs. Charles Long; and sister and brother-in-law, Lura Joan Henderson and Cran Oliver Henderson, Jr.; and a host of relatives and treasured friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Dinkler Weekes Long; and his mother, Lura Franklin Long; and his father, Charles O. Long.
A Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012, at 3 p.m. at the Gainesville First United Methodist Church in Gainesville with Dr. Terry Walton officiating. Graveside services and interment will be held at noon on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012 with Dr. Philip D. DeMore officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to one of the following: the Chapel Fund or Floral Fund of the Gainesville First United Methodist Church, 2780 Thompson Bridge Road, Gainesville, GA 30506; the Myosotis (Forget-Me-Not) Society, Atlanta Botanical Garden, P.O.
