John Watson Obituary

John Thomas Watson, 57, of Independence, Va., passed away July 29, 2012, at his home.
He was born June 1, 1955, at Marion, Va., to James Everett Watson and Fannie Jane Adams Watson.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly and Derek Phipps of Independence, Va.; granddaughter, Madelyn Phipps; two brothers and sister-in-law, Brad Watson of Max Meadows, Va., and Tony and Dorothy Watson of Christiansburg, Va.; one sister, Betty Halsey of Murrells Inlet, S.C.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A graveside service was held at Piney Creek Cemetery, Piney Creek, N.C., on Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2012. The Rev. Rex Hall officiated.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Diabetes Association, 4335 Cox Road, Glen Allen, Va. 23060 or the charity of choice.
Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home, Independence, Va., was in charge of arrangements.
