Boyd Oscar Alley, 62, of Woodlawn, died Sunday, April 24, 2016, at his home. He was born in Carroll County to the late Ransom Arney and Ina Pickett Alley. Survivors include brothers and sisters-in-law, Ellis and Betty Alley and Rudolph and Judy Alley, all of Woodlawn; sister and brother-in-law, Naomi and David Hagee of Roanoke; sister-in-law, Shirley Alley of Bell Springs; step sisters, Patti, Leona, Allison and Ann; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral was held April 28, 2016, at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Funeral Home Chapel at 2 p.m. with Elder Leonard Marshall officiating. Burial followed in the Pickett Cemetery. Bryant, Clara Brannock - Galax  
Clara Brannock Bryant, 99, of Galax, Va., passed away Friday, April 29, 2016, in the Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, N.C. Bryant was born in Grayson County, Va., on Feb. 12,1917, to Hardin T. and Mattie Smith Brannock. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Anderson Bryant. Survivors include a special niece, Patricia Brannock Lyles, whom she raised; several nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. The funeral service was held Sunday, May 1, 2016, at 3 p.m. in the Snow Hill Baptist Church with Pastor Ernie Smith officiating. Burial followed in the Snow Hill Cemetery. The family received friends Sunday from 1 p.m. until time for the funeral service at the Snow Hill Baptist Church. A guestbook is available online at www.vaughanguynn.com. Caudill, Reva Elva VanHoy - Mouth of Wilson  
Reva Elva VanHoy Caudill, 87, of Mouth of Wilson, died Monday, April 25, 2016, at her home. She was born March 13, 1929, at Mouth of Wilson to Levi Russell VanHoy and Laura Etta Moxley. She was preceded in death by her husband, Benny Caudill. Survivors include son and spouse, Marcus and Kara Caudill of Loveland, Colo.; daughter and spouse, Yvonne and John Keach of Viola, Idaho; one sister, Maxine Young of Baltimore, Md.; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral was held April 28, 2016, at Young's Chapel Baptist Church, Mouth of Wilson. The Rev. Doug Turnmire and David VanHoy officiated.  Burial was in Piney Creek Cemetery, Piney Creek, N.C. Davis, Naoma Grace - Galax  
Naoma Grace Davis, 88, Galax, died Friday, April 29, 2016, at the Waddell Nursing Home, Galax. She was born July 4, 1927, in Carroll County, to Posey and Clara Elizabeth Burnett. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Davis. Survivors include daughters and son-in-law, Linda and Nelson Galyean and Loretta Jane Davis; son and daughter-in-law, Harold D. and Rebecca Davis, all of Galax; seven grandchildren,; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. A funeral was held Monday, May 2, 2016, at 2 p.m. in the Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home Chapel, Galax, with burial following in the Monta Vista Cemetery. Officiating minister was Sammy Burnette. Dotson, Charles Thomas “Tommy” - Calabash  
Charles Thomas "Tommy" Dotson, 80, of Calabash, N.C., and formerly of Galax, died Tuesday, April 26, 2016, in the Novant Health Brunswick Medical Center in Bolivia, N.C. He was born in Galax on Sept. 2, 1935, to John Price and Anna Allene "Patsy" Stoneman Dotson. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Janet Schuyler Dotson. Survivors include his daughters and their fiancé, Kathy Dotson Johnson and Dale Huggins of Florence, S.C., and Hope Elaine Dotson and Tommy Sparks of Calabash, N.C.; two grandchildren and spouses; three great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Anita Dotson Padgett and Kenneth of Galax; and two nephews. A funeral was held April 30, 2016, at 2 p.m. in the Bishops Chapel Church. Burial followed in the Bishops Chapel Cemetery. Military rites were conducted by the Grayson VFW Post 7726. Survivors include his mother, Lalah Hull Edwards of Galax; his daughter, Cristie LeAnne Edwards; son, Marcus Calvin Edwards; brother and sister-in-law David and Donna Edwards, all of Galax; two nephews and spouses; one great-niece; and one great-nephew. Guy Franklin "Frank" Higgins, 76, of Galax, died Saturday, April 30, 2016, in the Waddell Nursing Home. He was born in Carroll County on April 3,1940, to Emmett and Maxine Amburn Higgins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Judith Ann Bowers Higgins. Survivors include his daughter and her wife Teresa Diane and Monica Higgins of Folsom, Calif.; son and his fiance', Gary Higgins and Kim Warren of Moorehead City, N.C.; a grandson; brother, Joe Higgins of Galax; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral will be held Thursday, May 5, 2016, at 2 p.m. in the Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Randy J. Key officiating. Burial will follow in the Blue Ridge Chapel Cemetery. Survivors include her six children and their spouses, Larry and Debbie Robinson of Hillsville, Michael and Wanda Robinson of Galax, Shirley Dickerson and husband, William Suite of Galax, Lois and Larry Bedsaul of Galax, Ricky and Cindy Robinson of Woodlawn and Tony and Lynette Robinson of Hillsville; sister, Nan Sizemore of Galax; 10 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. A funeral was held April 28, 2016, at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Funeral Home Chapel at 7 p.m. with Pastor Russell Payne and Elder Ronald Bowman officiating. Staples, Horace H. - Hillsville  
Horace H. Staples, 89, of Hillsville, passed away on Thursday, April 28, 2016. He was the son of the late Solon and Ethel Hicks Staples. He was preceded in death by wife, Virginia Bond Phillips Staples; a daughter, Sherry Bartlett; sisters, Annalene Cochran and Betty Sue Hodges; and brothers, Joe and Carl Staples. Survivors include daughters, Pam Piasecki and husband, Larry, of Ft. Myers, Fla., and Denise Davis and husband, Scot, of Wytheville, Va.; step daughters, Yvonne Webb and husband, Wise and Carolyn Phillips of Hillsville, Susan Dalton and husband, Cellell of Wytheville; brothers, Jay and wife, June Staples of Willis, James and wife, Joyce Staples, Edmund and wife, Imolene Staples of Hillsville; sisters, Lola Wolfe of Pulaski and Nelligene Hollandsworth of Raleigh, N.C.; sisters-in-law, Allie Staples and Dot Wyrick of Hillsville; grandchildren, Emily Kline and husband, Aaron, Molly Davis, and Abbie Davis, all of Wytheville and Kyle Bartlett of Ft. Myers, Fla.; one great-grandchild; 19 nieces and nephews; six step grandchildren; 10 step great-grandchildren; one step great-great-grandchild. Horace was a WWII Navy Veteran serving on the USS Farqhar in the South Pacific. He was a member of Open Door Christian Church, the Sylvatus Ruritan Club, VFW Post 1115 and the Naval Destroyer Association.  Funeral services were held on Sunday, May 1, 2016, at 2 p.m. at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplin Jerry Keegan officiating. Burial followed in the Dalton Hill Cemetery. The family received friends at the funeral home on Saturday, April 30, 2016, from 5 until 7 p.m. Memorial gifts may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 1477 Carrollton Pike, Hillsville, Va. 24343.
