Argel Benton Callahan, 83, of Independence, Va., passed away Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013, at his residence.
He was born March 24, 1930, in Grayson County, Va. He was the son of the late Boge Callahan and Grace Robinson Callahan.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy
and a member of Living Word Pentecostal Holiness Church in Maiden and the American Legion Post 16 of Newton.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Rose Sumner Callahan; and second wife, Betty Lou Rosenbaum Callahan.
Survivors include his wife, Edna Callahan of Hickory, N.C.; daughter, Regena Billings and husband Kenny of Independence, Va.; sonm Curtis Callahan of Independence, Va.; brother, William Callahan of Galax, Va.; three sisters, Helen Cook of Elk Creek, Va., Frances Humpreys of Baltimore, Md., and Guida Poe of Independence, Va.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral service was held on Monday, Dec. 30, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Living Word Pentecostal Holiness Church in Maiden with Pastor Rick Haug and the Rev. Byron Repass officiating. Entombment followed in Catawba Memorial Park in Hickory, N.C.
The family received friends on Monday from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to the service.
