Betty Jane Wigfall Correll, 86, died Saturday, June 22, 2013, at her home in Mouth of Wilson.
She was born on Dec. 1, 1926, in Carbondale, Pa., and was the daughter of the late Ruth M. Schultz Wigfall and Sydney R. Wigfall.
A graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, she was a member of the school's marching band and also enjoyed playing the piano.
She was an accompolished ice skater.
On Jan. 14, 1946, she married her high school sweetheart, Robert G. 'Corky' Correll. Seven years later, they and their two small children moved from Carbondale to Wilmington, Del., where Corky was employed by the DuPont Company. In 1968, when the children were grown, she, too, went to work for DuPont. Hired for a clerical position, she quickly rose to management in the company's treasury department. She retired in 1983, and she and Corky moved to the Cox Chapel Community in Mouth of Wilson. There, she was a member and past officer or the Cox Chapel Grange.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by beloved husband of 66 years, Robert Gerald 'Corky' Correll; and her brother, Thomas Albert 'Tommy' Wigfall.
Survivors include one son, Gerald Thomas 'Jerry' Correll and his wife, Donna, of Elk Creek; and one daughter, Virginia Dawn 'Ginger' Correll of Fries; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held today, Wednesday, June 26, 2013, at 11:30 a.m. at the Cox Chapel United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The Rev. Will Austin and the Rev. Merle Correll will officiate.
The family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. until service time.
