Carrie L. Yates, 91, died Aug. 7, 2013, in Tallahassee, Fla.
Carrie was born in Fries, Va., into a large family of 12 children. There she met Bob Yates, her husband of 47 years. Together they raised two wonderful children, worked hard, enjoyed life and shared many adventures.
For 17 years she worked for the Dade County Board of Education as a school lunch manager before retiring to Live Oak, Fla.
Carrie volunteered as a Pink Lady at the Suwannee County Hospital.
After her husband died, she moved to be near relatives and found a new community family in Crawfordville.
She led a life devoted to God and participated in many activities at the Crawfordville United Methodist Church.
A true Southern Lady - "Come on in and visit for a while, now what can I get you to eat and drink."
She was courageous, willing to sacrifice for her family, fun loving and always ready for a road trip. She will be remembered for a lifetime of strength, knowledge and love.
Carrie leaves a loving family who will forever keep her in their hearts. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Yates of Tallahassee; daughter-in-law, Theresa Yates; grandchildren, Robert Yates (Debbie) of Branford, Fla., Katherine Kelley and Deborah Yates of Tallahassee, Fla., Chris Yates (Emily) of Crawfordville, Fla.; and five great-grandchildren; brother, Dewey Luper; and sisters, Ruth Durham Pack and Evelyn Spitzer of Virginia.
Carrie was preceded in death by her beloved husband and son, Robert Yates and William Yates; her parents, William and Rosa Luper; sisters, Ada, Faye, Lillian, Pauline and Mozelle; brothers, Clarence, Paul, James and Ralph.
Services will be held today, Monday, Aug. 12, 2013, at 11 a.m. in the Crawfordville United Methodist Church. A graveside service will follow at New Harmony Church in McAlpin Fla.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to be made to American Macular Degeneration Foundation, P.O. Box 515, Northampton Mass. 01061.
