Celene (Young) Cornette

Celene Young Cornette, 86, died Wednesday, June 13, 2012.
A native of Galax, Va., she had been a Hampton Roads resident since 1953 and retired from Hampton City Schools in 1982 after 25 years as an eighth grade U.S. History teacher.
She was a member of Central United Methodist Church and its Progressive Sunday School class; the Riverdale Garden Club, the New River Pioneer Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution; and she enjoyed playing bridge for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elden Shupe Cornette.
Survivors include her daughter, Susan Cornette Reeves of Fairfax Station; her son, Dr. William R. Cornette of Surry; her sister, Diane Whitesell of Moore Haven, Fla.; three grandchildren, Dr. Ryan Reeves and his wife, Casey, Dr. Carter Reeves and his wife, Liz, and Weston Reeves and his wife, Libbie; and two great-grandchildren, Eliza Reeves and Harrison Reeves.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, June 24, 2012, at Central United Methodist Church by the Rev. Chuck Root. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 4-5 p.m. Saturday at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home.
