Charles Jackson "Jack" Thomas, 98, of Volney, Va., a resident of Grayson Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Independence, Va., passed away on Monday, Sept. 17, 2012, at the center
He was born Sept. 6, 1914, at Grant, Va., to the late Eli F. Thomas and Cessie Pugh Thomas.
He was also predeceased by his wife, Ada W. Thomas; son, Charles K. Thomas; brothers, Carl Thomas, Kyle Thomas, and Bill Thomas; sisters, Virginia "Sis" Thomas, Ruth Argabrite, Nell Thomas and Kate Rudolph.
Survivors include one son, Paul Thomas and wife, Monica of Newton, N.C.; grandchildren, Amy T. Gurley and husband, Aaron of Winston-Salem, N.C., Cheryl Thomas of Newton, N.C., Brenda Longest and husband, Jerry of Bristow, Va., and Bill Thomas of Severn, Md.; great-grandchild, Camryn Longest of Bristow, Va.; one brother, Joe Thomas and wife, Wilma of Asheboro, N.C.
Funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2012, at the Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel in Independence, Va. The Rev. Becky Wheeler and the Rev. Doug Halsey officiated. Interment was in the Grant Cemetery, Grant, Va. Masonic rites were conducted by Mouth of Wilson Masonic Lodge #223 A.F. & A.M. Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home, Independence, Va., was in charge of arrangements.
