Joseph "Skebo" Montgomery, 92, of Hillsville, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014, at the Salem VA Medical Center.
Montgomery was born in Carroll County to the late Perry Green and Maddie Gardner Montgomery.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Montgomery; sons, John Wayne Montgomery and Rhudy Montgomery; and great-grandson, Ty Cory Montgomery.
Survivors include his children and spouses, Norma and Doug Walls of Germanton, N.C., and Jettie and Bobbie Montgomery of Radford; daughter-in-law, Wanda Montgomery of Hillsville; brother and sister-in-law, Archie and June Montgomery of Tallahassee, Fla.; sisters, Henrietta Ogle of Hillsville and Trudy Shockley of York, Pa.; six grandchildren, Joseph Lee Montgomery, Dustin Wayne Montgomery, Kristie Lynn McCormick, Jason Douglas Walls, Amanda Elizabeth Linkous and Stacy Lea Payne; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held today, Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2014, at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Funeral Home Chapel at 2:30 p.m. with Pastor Greg McCormick officiating. Burial will follow in Monta Vista Memory Gardens. Military rites will be conducted by the Hillsville VF W Post 1115. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 12:30 until 2:30 p.m. prior to the funeral service.
