Louis J. Bryant, 77, of Independence, passed away Aug. 30, 2013, at his home.
He was born and raised on the family farm between Fox Creek and the New River with sister Carol and parents, Jim and Drucie Bryant.
Louis developed a love for the outdoors. As an avid outdoorsman, Louis hunted deer and grouse in Grayson County and made annual trips to South Dakota to hunt pheasants.
Louis had a successful insurance and real estate career in Independence and was respected by both his clients and colleagues. He also enjoyed playing golf with friends at New River Country Club and loved watching his grandsons during their successful golf careers.
Louis is most remembered by his great love and respect for the family farm that he ran and maintained until his last days. The family and grandchildren would often make trips to the farm with him whether it was just a short ride around the farm, an afternoon of skeet shooting, or a day of fishing or hunting deer.
In the community, Louis was an active member and past president of Independence Lions Club and trustee of Fox Cemetery.
Survivors include a son, Doug Bryant and wife, Kathy Bryant of Galax; daughter, Becky Capecci and husband, John Capecci of Charlotte, N.C.;, sister, Carol Jeffreys and husband, Jeff Jeffreys of Mouth of Wilson; and five grandchildren, Sam Bryant, Molly Bryant, John Bryant, Andrew Capecci and Mark Capecci
Funeral services were held Sunday, Sept.1, 2013, at 3 p.m. at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel, Independence, Va. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. preceding the funeral service. The burial followed in Fox Cemetery with military rites conducted by Grayson County VFW
