Nelson Alderman, 66, of Vinton, went home to be with his Heavenly Father, Sunday, July 6, 2014.
He was born in Hillsville on June 18, 1948.
Working in God's ministry for 42 years, he was devoted to serving God.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Patricia Melton Alderman; son, David Michael Alderman; father-in-law (friend), Cecil Oren Melton; parents, Kenneth Clarence Alderman and Vista Star Alderman; and two nieces; and one nephew.
Alderman was preceded in death by his sister, Donna Jean Surratt.
Nelson was a devoted, loving husband and father. His smile lit up the world. Everyone loved Nelson's kind, caring ways.
Multitalented, he could fix anything and loved the challenge. He got lots of pride and joy from gardening. His passing will leave a big hole in the hearts of many who loved him.
A service to honor his life will be held today, Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Fancy Gap United Methodist Church with Pastor Maria Grimm officiating. A graveside service will follow at Independence Cemetery in Hillsville. The family received friends at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Funeral Home Chapel in Hillsville from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 8, 2014.
