Robert "Bob" Miller, 73, of Woodlawn, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012, at his home from an extended illness with his wife June at his side.
He was born in Lobata, W.Va.
He was a Church of Christ preacher for 33 years. He retired from preaching at Open Door Christian Church, Feb. 2010.
He served in the United States Army. He was a heavy equipment operator for years at several coal companies.
He was also a graduate of Bluefield College of Evangelism.
In addition to his parents. Walter and Grace Miller, he was preceded in death by one sister Barbara Jean; and one brother, Walter "Shorty" Miller.
Survivors include his wife, June Carol (Snell) Miller of the home; two daughters, Theresa Cline Lester and husband Thurman Lester of Big Rock, Va., and Barbara Hogston Halbert and husband, Anthony Halbert of Charleston, S.C.; one son, Robert Allen Miller and wife Sandra of Sevierville, Tenn.; and five grandchildren, Chester B. Hogston, Sheena C. Knight, Robert Clayton Hogston, Kirsten Miller Rust and Cadence Antonia Lynn Halbret.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012, at 1 p.m. at Open Door Christian Church with Minister Bart Wynegar officiating. Burial followed at River Hill Christian Church Cemetery.
Military rites were conducted by Hillsville VFW
The family received friends at Open Door Christian Church from 6 until 8 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 24, 2012.
