Virgie Rose Umberger, 86, of Rural Retreat, Va., passed away Monday, Aug. 19, 2013, at her home.
She was born Dec. 5, 1926, in Grayson County, Va., to the late Allie Caldwell and Johnnie Parks.
Survivors include her husband, Earl Umberger of the home; three sons and spouses, Johnnie and Martha Umberger of Stanley, N.C., Jimmy and Linda Umberger of Rural Retreat and Jack Umberger of the home; two daughters and spouse, Betty Hancock of Rural Retreat and Bonnie and Jerry Wood of Salem; one brother, John Henry Parks of Sugar Grove ; one sister, Louise Osborne of Marion; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; special caregivers and hospice nurses.
A funeral service was held Thursday, Aug. 22, 2013, at Burtons Chapel Baptist Church, Flatridge, Va. The Rev. Ralph Surber officiated. Interment was in Burtons Chapel Cemetery Friday, Aug. 23, 2013.
