Ralph L. Payne, 85, of Largo, Fla., formerly of Hampton, Va., and a native of Galax, Va., was called home to be with the Lord on Nov. 20, 2012.
He retired from the Virginia State Health Department as an Epidemiology Specialist and received his medical training at the Centers of Disease Control in Atlanta, Ga.
He was an active member of Seminole First Baptist Church where he served on various committees.
He served his country honorably during World War II and the Korean Conflict as a military policeman in the U.S. Army.
He was a member of the Masonic Old Town Lodge #68.
Survivors include his loving and caring wife, Saranne Nuckolls Payne; son, J. Michael Payne and his wife Mary of Jacksonville, Fla., and their daughter, Ashlie of Orlando, Fla.; daughter, Elizabeth Payne of Nokomis, Fla.; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Norma and Olen Quesenberry; sister-in-law, Dean Nixon, of Galax, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at Seminole First Baptist Church today, Monday, Nov. 26, 2012, at 11 a.m. Private interment will be at Bay Pines National Cemetery.
