Alma Leota Lanter Clemons Arnold, 87, was born in the Green Valley area of Fries, Va,, March 20,1926, to Nellie Rose Boyles Lanter and George Robert Lanter.
She went to be with the Lord Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014, at the Fries Pentecostal Holiness Church at 2 p.m. Visitation was one hour preceding the service at the church. The Rev. Bill Linkous and the Rev. Mark Christy officiated. Burial followed in the Fries Pentecostal Holiness Church Cemetery.
She was the eldest of six children and the only daughter.
After she married, the joke in the family was when the boys wanted to stay out late they would go to her house, call their dad and say they were at Alma's, spending the night. Their dad was satisfied, went to bed and they went off with their friends. Being the sweet sister, she never told on them. Her legacy will be her kindness to everyone. Her motto was "There are no bad people in this world - some are just better than others."
Alma worked in the cotton mill in Fries until it closed in 1988. She went to nursing school and worked at Blue Ridge Nursing Home until she was 77 years old.
