Betty (Buck) Janes Fields, 90, of Roaring Gap, N.C., and Mouth of Wilson, Va., passed away Monday, May 20, 2013, at Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville, Va.

She was born Feb. 15, 1923, in Johnson City, Tenn., to Hobart and Emma Dernida Janes.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, D.G. (Red) Fields.
Survivors include three children, Sally Fields of Keswick, Va., Daniel Fields of Sparta, N.C., and Annette Ferguson of Abingdon, Va.; a son-in-law, Hugh Ferguson; two grandchildren, Amy Ferguson and Laura Ferguson; and one sister, Mary Pedigo of Savannah, Ga.
She attended Tennessee High School in Bristol, Tenn., and Virginia Intermont College.
She was a devoted mother and wife. She enjoyed golf, bridge, cooking and entertaining for many wonderful years.
A graveside service was conducted at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 23, 2013, in Youngs Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery, Mouth of Wilson, Va., with the Rev. Hal Eaton officiating.
Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home, Independence, Va., was in charge of arrangements.
The family has requested no flowers.
