Chester Surratt Jr., 82 of Austinville, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 6, 2018, at Salem Health and Rehab. 
Surratt was born in Charlottesville, Va., to the late Chester Surratt Sr., and Edna L. Southern. 
Surratt worked at Dupont for over 27 years. 
He lived in the Waynesboro area for many years before moving back to the Hillsville area where he enjoyed spending time with his friends and family. 
A special thank you to Fred and Karen Gillispie for all their help and support.  
Surratt was a member of the Waynesboro Masonic Lodge and was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Michael Leon Surratt Sr.  and Lisa of Stauton; daughter and son-in-law, Teresa Lynn and David Huffer of Stuarts Draft; brothers, Dave Surratt of Fishersville and Danny Surratt of Staunton; sister, Linda Smith of Staunton; grandchildren, Elizabeth Taylor, Jonathan Huffer and Michael Surratt Jr.; and three great-grandchildren.
A graveside service with burial will be held on Friday, Oct. 12, 2018, at Augusta Memorial Park near Waynesboro at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Michael Hevener officiating.  Military rites will be conducted by the East Augusta County American Legion Post 340 and Masonic rites will be conducted by the Lee Lodge #209. The family received friends at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Funeral Home Chapel in Hillsville on Thursday from 6 until 8 p.m.
