Frances C. Absher, 68, of Independence, Va., passed away Friday, May 31, 2013, at her home.

She was born July 29, 1944, at Independence to the late Granville Cheeks and Elno Testerman Cheeks.
She was predeceased by two sisters, Ruby Cheeks and Nancy Brown; a brother, Bayes Cheeks; and brother-in-law, Franklin Wood.
Survivors include her husband, Mac Absher of the home; daughter and spouse, Lisa and Thomas Hash of Independence; son and spouse, Doug and Gladys Absher of Independence; two grandchildren, Samantha Absher and Ethen Absher of Independence; great-granddaughter, Remington Lea Rutherford of Independence; three sisters, Louise Wood of Independence, Helen and Garland Ball of Galax and Mary and Ronald Willard of Galax; one brother and spouse, Toni and Angie Cheeks of Independence; sister-in-law, Geneva Cheeks of Elk Creek; and several nieces and nephews
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 3, 2013, at the Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel, Independence, Va. Interment followed in Saddle Creek Cemetery. The Rev. Bobby Cheeks officiated.
