Howard Wayne Chappell Jr., 76, better known as Chicken Chappell, of Galax, died Thursday, March 14, 2013, at his home.
He was born in Galax on April 26, 1936, to Howard Wayne and Ila Goodson Chappell.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Rose Marie Chappell.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy Parsons Chappell of Galax; children, Bonnie and Thomas A. Moody of Chester, Chrissy Chappell and Pam Wright of Prince George, Chuck and Kelly Chappell of Prince George; step-children, Lisa Honeycutt of Richmond and Lloyd Honeycutt of Danville; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a step-grandchild; sisters and brother-in-law, Barbara Frazier of New Smyrna, Fla., and Jalanda and Tom Smith of Tuscon, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held Saturday, March 16, 2013, at 3 p.m. in the First Methodist Church with the Rev. Richard Gregory officiating.
The family request no flowers, however donations may be made to the First Methodist Church, P.O. Box 445, Galax, Va. 24333 or to the Hillsville Lions Club, Spot Vision Scanner, P.O. Box 122, Hillsville, Va. 24343.
Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
