James Edward Reavis, 90, went home to his Lord Jesus Thursday June 14, 2012, in the comfort of his home in Galax.
He was born on March 22, 1922, in Reavistown to the late Edd and Zella Reavis.
He was preceded in death by sisters, Mary Emma Patton and Ima Ruth Reeves; and brothers, Paul Higgins Reavis and Elmer Ray Reavis.
James is survived by his wife, Aletha of the home; son, Fred of Columbia S.C.; two sisters, Thelma Patton and Opal Weatherman, both of Galax; brother-in-law, Fred McGee of Galax; and sister-in-law, Betty Manus.
James grew up in Galax, served in the Navy during World War II. After the war he worked at Burlington Industries and then retired as the district manager for Pepsi at the Galax Warehouse.
The family would like to thank the employees of Southwest Virginia Home Health Care and Twin County Hospice for the excellent care they provided him during his last months. They went out of their way to provide excellent care and comfort during his illness.
And a special thank you to Danny and Sheila Jones for the day care provided during the entire illness. Their care and love for James was so unbelievable and so much more beyond the normal course of duty that I cannot put into words the gratitude the family has to them.
A memorial service was held at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home, 201 West Center Street, Galax, Va., on Saturday, June 16, 2012, at 2 p.m.
The family received friends at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until time for the service.
A celebration of life followed the service at the home on 109 Forest Ave., Galax.
In lieu of flowers, make any donations to Twin County Hospice, P.O. Box 106, Galax, Va. 24333 in memory of James Reavis.
