Obituary

James Emmett Akers (J.E.), 70, of Marion, S.C., and Galax, died Friday, April 26, 2013, at the McLeod Cloud Hospice House in Florence, S.C.
He was born in Fries on May 10, 1942, to Lee and May Akers.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Violet Jones Akers of Marion, S.C., and Galax; two sons James E. Akers Jr. (Jimmy) of Marion, S.C., and Jonathan Eric Akers (Johnny) of Marion, S.C., and Galax; two daughters, Erica Louise Akers and partner John Crookshank of Galax and Ashley Lynn Akers of Marion, S.C., and Galax; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one special grandchild; a brother, Robert "Buddy" Akers and sister-in-law Nancy of Fries; sisters, Evelyn Carico and brother-in-law Wayne, Anna Bell Chappell and brother-in-law Bob and Juanita Sawyers and Jimmy, all of Galax; several nieces and nephews; and one special niece; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Clarence and Carolyn Jones and Juanita and Stanley Bedsaul, all of Galax, Bobbie and Charlotte Jones of Fries, Katherine and David Haulsey of Hillsville and Barbara and Wes McKinney of Ivanhoe.
A funeral was held Tuesday at 2 p.m., at the Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ben Haga and Barry Lyons officiating. Entombment was in the Monta Vista Mausoleum. Military rites were conducted by the Grayson County VFW Post 7726.
