James Nathan "Bear" Ward, 64, of Fries, died Wednesday, June 5, 2013, at his home.
He was born in Greensboro, N.C., on Sept. 14, 1948, to the Rev. James and Evelyn Wagoner Ward.
Survivors include his wife Dawn Ward of Fries; daughters and sons-in-law, Wendy and Brian Peebles of Dana, Ind., Cindy Ward Carico of Bland, Lisa and Nay Slade of Reidsville, N.C., Missy and James Bryant of Winchester, Ky., and Beth Ward and fiance', Lee Blankenship of Fries; sons, Vinton Ward of Ivanhoe and J.D. Murdock of Jamestown, Ind.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Brenda Denson of Eden, N.C., Barbara and Wade Lawson of Shallotte, N.C., Rita Blevins of State Road, N.C., Teresa and Richard Goodman of Dobson, N.C., Martha and Homer Norman of Fries and Donna Ward of Wytheville; brothers and sisters-in-law, Mark and Lanor Ward of Poplar Camp, and Dan and Sally Ward of Brush Creek; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral was held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Cold Springs United Methodist Church with the Rev. Tim Smith, the Rev. Andy Edmonds and the Rev. Matt Linkous officiating. Burial followed in the Cold Springs Cemetery.
