Laurence Lee Wensel (1919 - 2014)

Laurence Lee Wensel, 94, of Galax, Va., passed away Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014, in the Twin County Regional Hospital.
Wensel was born in Garrett County, Md., on March 15, 1919, to Floyd Lee and Bertha Mae Nicholson Wensel.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph and Walter Wensel.
Wensel proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corp and was a World War II Veteran.
He was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church where he had served as Chairman of the Administrative Board.
He was past president of the Galax Lions Club and also retired from Carnation Milk Company as a field man.
Survivors include his wife, Janice Cox Wensel of Galax, Va.; daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and John Phillips of Wytheville, Va., and Dianne and Ed Stone of Christiansburg, Va.; son and daughter-in-law, Lee and Vicky Wensel of Christiansburg, Va.; six grandchildren, Meghan Govin, Allison Phillips, Michael Wagoner, Travis Wagoner, Lauren Scaletta and Seth Wensel; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Mildred Dunbar of Oakland, Md., Dot Wilt of Coshocton, Ohio and Gladys Faherty of Frostburg, Md.; brothers, Floyd Lee Wensel of Triadelphia, W.Va., and Donald Eugene Wensel of Silver Springs, Md.; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service was held Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014, at 2 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Richard Gregory officiating. Burial followed in the Coal Creek Cemetery. The family received friends Sunday from 1 p.m. until time for the funeral service at the First United Methodist Church.
The family request no flowers please. Donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church or to the charity of the donor's choice.
