Marie Carrie Howlett Marshall, 97, of Woodlawn, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 16, 2012, at Golden Living Center in Galax.

She was born in Carroll County, Va., to the late Walter G. and Sadie Glidewell Howlett.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Luther Hearold Marshall; and her daughter, Belva Marshall Hill.
Survivors include her daughters and son-in-law, Rebecca Easter of Hillsville and Mitzi and Charles Galyean of Galax; sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry Marshall of Woodlawn, Kenneth and Carolyn Marshall of Hillsville and Billy and Sallie Marshall of Woodlawn; son-in-law, Ralph Hill of Roanoke; sisters and brother-in-law, Shirley and Willis Hill of Hillsville and Frances Webb of Fancy Gap; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, Aug. 19, 2012, at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Funeral Home Chapel at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Kevin Campbell officiating. Burial followed in the Wilkinson Memorial Cemetery. The family received friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 12:30 p.m. until service time.
