Our beloved husband and father, Melvyn E. Barber, went to be with his Lord on Dec. 15, 2013, at the Select Specialty Hospital at Forsyth Hospital, Winston-Salem, N.C.

Melvyn is the son of the late Albert W. Barber and Beulah Gravely Barber.
He was born in Vivian, W.Va., on Nov. 27, 1942.
He was 71 years old. He attended First Church of God in Crumpler and Mount Vernon Baptist Church in Low Gap, N.C.
He worked at Algoma Mines for 26 years before retiring. He was a member of the United Mine Workers Union. Melvyn then moved to Dover, Del., for 10 years and worked for Playtex Products. On his final retirement Melvyn moved to Galax, Va. He faithfully served his country in the U.S. Air Force.
Survivors include his loving wife of 36 years, Drema Sue Barber; two sons, Melvyn Barber Jr. and his wife Amy of Hillsville, Va., and Lamont Barber and his wife Angie of Galax, Va. The center of his heart, his three grandchildren, Matthew Barber and his wife Jeanie of Galax, Va., Stephanie Barber of Christiansburg, Va., and Justin Barber of Galax, Va. Melvyn's world was his great-granddaughter, Chloe Barber of Galax. Melvyn leaves one sister, Linda Walker and her husband Gary of Bluefield; one brother, Larry Barber and his wife Donna of Bridgewater, Va.
Visitation services were Thursday Dec. 19, 2013, noon to 1 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home Chapel. His funeral service began at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Jimmie Russ of the Brushfork First Church of God officiating. Graveside services followed at Roselawn Memorial Gardens with full military rites. Melvyn's pallbearers were Matthew and Justin Barber, Brian Walker, Cody Walker, Michael Ford, and Gene Jones.
