Nancy Cochran Wilson, 85, of Galax, Va., died peacefully on Saturday, June 16, 2012, at the Woltz Hospice Home, Dobson, N.C.
She was born in the Castleton community of Wythe County, Va., to the late Fitzhugh Lee "Boy" Cochran and Blanche Allen Cochran.
After the Cochran family moved to Galax in 1946, she met and married the late Emory Davis "Dave" Wilson.
She is also predeceased by her sister, Oleda Cochran Burnette; her brothers, Charles "Pete" Cochran and Horace Allen Cochran.
She was an Elder emeritus and very active member of the First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, in Galax where she served her Lord in many capacities throughout the last 60 years.
Survivors include her loving children, Debbie Wilson and Miles Compton and David and Diane Wilson; her beloved grandchildren, Cory and Anais Wilson and Molly Wilson; her cherished sister, Mildred Cochran Dickerson; sisters-in-law, Polly Catron, Vivian Wilson and Geneva Cochran; special friends, Norma Lee Carr, Hazel Webb and Margarett Brown; special caregiver and niece, Denise Burnette; and her constant companion, Gracie; as well as her treasured church family which includes the members of her dearly loved Comrades Sunday School Class; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Graveside services were conducted on Tuesday, June 19, 2012, at 11 a.m. by the Rev. Randy Morris at Felts Cemetery in Galax. Visitation with the family was held on Monday night, June 18, 2012, from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. in the sanctuary of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 402 N. Jefferson Street, Galax, Va.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), at the above address.
Nancy was a loving mother, a joyful and exuberant grandmother and caring sister. She was deeply religious, a rigorous prayer partner, and her and Mildred's card ministry will be greatly missed by all who were the recipients of their many greeting cards over the years.
She will be missed by her family and her church family, but we rejoice that she has received her reward in heaven.
Our sincere thanks for her last months of outstanding and loving care go to the many great caregivers at Golden Living Center-Blue Ridge, Twin County Regional Hospital, Forsyth Hospital and the Woltz Hospice Home.
