Nina Helen Farmer Alderman, 87, of Hillsville, passed away on Monday, March 10, 2014, surrounded by her children at her home in Hillsville.

Alderman was born in Carroll County to the late Haskell and Phoebe Ellen Shockley Farmer.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Elvis Alderman, the son of Everette (Ebb) Alderman and America Lee Howlett; sister, Ethelene (Mrs. Glen) Melton; and brother, Arthur Farmer.
Survivors include a daughter, Margaret Ann Alderman of the home; son, Charles Allen and Sandy Miles Alderman of Galax, Va., and son, Clyde Ray and Joyce Bradshaw Alderman of Bland, Va.; daughter, America Jane and Ronnie Taylor of Woodlawn, Va.; grandchildren, Danny, Charity, Nicole, Arvis, Blair, Tosha and Amy; great-grandchildren, Matthew, Joshua, Nicolas, Serena, Vicenta, Jacob, Olivia, Madison, Cullen, Chip, Evan, Alex, and Payton; and two great-great-grandchildren, Kiley and Noah; several nieces and nephews; special friends and caregivers, Goldie Austin, Oneda Hutchens, Margie Quesenberry, Jane Patton, Pat Hall, and Charles and Donna Keith; and a special niece, Sharon Pettry Zeitz.
Alderman is wearing a brooch which was given to her by her youngest granddaughter, Tosha Rachelle Taylor.
A funeral service was held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 13, 2014, at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Clyde R. Alderman officiating. Burial followed in the Wilkinson Memorial Cemetery. The family received friends at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Funeral Home Chapel, 1035 North Main Street, Hillsville, Va. 24343 on Wednesday, March, 12, 2014, from 6 to 8 p.m.
