Paul Nowadly, 66, who was born in Buffalo, N.Y., on Nov. 28, 1945, who resided in Elk Creek,Va., passed away on Sunday, June 3, 2012, after a hard-fought battle with cancer.
Paul was a member of Independence First United Methodist Church where he found great pleasure in being part of the church missions including ""Lamb's Table,"" Flat Rock United Methodist Administrative Board and a member of the ""Chicken Cooking Crew.""
Paul was a veteran of the United States Navy and served during the Vietnam era.
Paul worked in the plumbing and heating industry for 50 years before retiring.
The center of Paul's life was his best friend and wife Candice and his beloved dog Lucy.
Survivors include his mother, Betty June Nowadly; and children, Paul M. (Lori) Nowadly, Lori (David) Fischer, Denise (Joe) Kowalczyk and Patrick Betz; seven grandchildren; sisters, Barbara Marino, Kathleen (Robert) Connors and Lynn (Frank) Kaczmarczyk; sisters-in-law, Vickie Knaus, Michelle (Michael) Majtyka, Aunt Jo and Uncle Peter Nowadly; special cousins, Frank and Carole Quiett; and many nieces, nephews and special friends.
Paul was preceded in death by his father, Nicholas Nowadly; brothers, Peter and James Nowadly; and grandson, Ethan. His lifelong best friends, Harold Knaus and Buddy Wood, also preceded him in death.
A celebration of life service was held June 6, 2012, at Independence First United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Terri Johnson Gregory officiating.
Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home, Independence, Va., was in charge of arrangements.
