Ralph Edwin Ward, 85, peacefully passed away at his home in Pipers Gap on Aug. 24, 2013.

Ralph was loved and will be missed by many.
Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, Everett Edwin Ward and Flora Gillespie Ward.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 62 years, Clara Wilson Ward; sons and daughter-in-laws, Edwin and Becky Ward of Galax and Steve and Martha Ann Sisson-Ward of McLean, Va.; grandson and wife, Clinton and Caitlyn Ward of Galax; grandson, Tyler Ward of Radford; great-grandson, Casen Ward of Galax; sister and husband, Wanda and Kermit Williams of Galax; and nieces and husbands, Karen and David Skeens of Manassas, Hilda and Eddie Anderson of Galax and Sandra Williams of Mount Airy, N.C. Ralph will also be missed by many cousins and friends.
Ralph was a cofounder and Scout Master of Boy Scouts of America Troop #187, Charter Member of the Oakland Ruritan Club, a 32nd Degree Mason in Old Town Lodge #68, a member of the Shriners Kazim Temple, Roanoke, Virginia and of the Hillbilly Unit at the Galax Shrine Club.
Ralph was a 62-year member of Oakland United Methodist Church where a "Celebration" of Ralph's life will be held on Sat., Sept. 7, 2013. There will be a 1 p.m. family visitation with a 2 p.m. service to follow. Feel free to bring a picture or story to share during this time.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to the Back Pack Buddy Program, providing food for Oakland Elementary School children; at Oakland United Methodist Church, 4987 Pipers Gap Road, Galax, Va. 24333 or a charity of your choice.
