Sanford Jefferson Burnette, 65, of Galax, died Saturday, March 1, 2014, in the Forsyth Medical Center, Winston Salem, N.C.
He was born Aug, 21, 1948, in Carroll County, to Fletcher Arlo and Mallie Melinda Bowers Burnette.
Survivors includes his wife, Jacqueline D. Burnette of the home; sons, Michael Burnette of SanDiego, Calif., and Dennis Burnette of Oklahoma; step-son, Timothy James Miller of Galax; three grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Ada Lee and Elmer Williams of Galax; brothers and sisters-in-law, Fletcher A. Burnette Jr. and Lou of Draper, and Billy A. Burnette and Ann of Galax; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be held today, Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at 2 p.m., in the Vaughan-Guynn Funeral HomeChapel. Burial will follow in the Monta Vista Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. preceding the funeral service. Officiating ministers will be Pastor James Smith, the Rev. Woynal Smythers and the Rev. Billy Burnette.
Military rites will be performed by the Grayson VFW Post #7726.
