Grayson Hampton Collins, 89, of Independence, Va., passed away Feb. 9, 2014 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C.
He was born Sept. 20, 1924, at Independence to the late Kemper Guy Collins and Sally Agnus Hamption Collins.
He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, having served as superintendent, teacher and served on several committees. He retired from the U. S. Postal Service and also was a World War II Veteran of the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife, Lorene Hendrix Collins of the home; two sons and spouse, Dennis and Jennifer Collins of Richmond and Jeff Collins of Wytheville; four grandchildren, Brittany Collins, Emily Collins, Rebecca Collins and Tad Collins; sister, Inez Boyer of Independence; brother and wife, Guy and Peggy Collins of Greensboro, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews
Funeral services will be held today, Friday, Feb. 14, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Independence, Va. The Rev. Darren Brannock and Odell Wright officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery with military rites by Grayson County VFW Post 7726.
