Betty J. Speece, 81, formerly of rural Bucyrus, died Thursday, November 14, 2013 at Altercare of Bucyrus, Bucyrus.
Betty was born in Galion on July 11, 1932 to the late Paul L. and Bertha M. (Smith) Corwin. She had lived in the Crawford County area all of her life.
Betty was a member of the Marion Road Church of Christ, the Ladies Group at the Church and Crawford County Council on Aging, Bucyrus. She enjoyed cooking and she also sold Watkins products. Betty was a caring wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
She is survived by her two sons: Charles E. & Carol Speece, Galion and Edward E. & Dee Ann Speece, Bucyrus; her three grandchildren: John C. & Suzanne Speece, Maplewood, NJ; Erik J. Speece, Galion; and Beth & Bill Comerford, Galion; four great grandchildren: Seamus Comerford, Lorelei Comerford, Addison Speece and Tyler Speece; one brother Vaughn & Mary Jo Corwin, Mt. Gilead; three sisters Joyce & Ray Gittings, Canfield; Marilyn & Paul Wilson, Ocala, FL; Pauline & Merl Robinson, Galion, brother-in-law Charles Bosworth, sister-in-law Kathy Corwin; numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and lifelong friends.
She was preceded in death by three grandchildren: infant Benjamin Speece, Eddie Speece, Mike Speece; an infant brother Ronald M. Corwin; sister Geraldine Bosworth, brother Wendell Corwin, and her former husband, Lester Speece.
Friends may call Sunday, November 17, 2013 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM and 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, Galion. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, November 18, 2013 at the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, Galion with her son Minister Charles Speece officiating. Burial will follow in Caledonia Cemetery, Caledonia.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Marion Road Church of Christ in care of the Mark A. Schneider funeral home. The family gratefully acknowledges the loving care that Betty received from the staff of Altercare Nursing Home during her extended stay.
