Charles William "Bill" Montgomery, 85, formerly of Galion and currently of Pontotoc, Miss. for the past year died Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013 at Church Street Assisted Living Center in Ecru, Miss.
Born Feb. 22, 1928 in Pontotoc, Miss., he was the son of the late Carl "Cos" and the late Ruth (Foshee) Montgomery. He was preceded in death on December 18, 2011 by his wife, Dorothy E. "Dot" (Bedson) Montgomery whom he married on December 18, 1954.
He served in the United States Army
from 1951 to 1953 during the Korean Conflict
and was a member of the Honor Guard. He worked at the former Galion Iron Works/Dresser/Komatsu for 36 years where he was an assembler of cranes and road graders. Bill was a life member of Bucyrus Conservation Club, Marion County Fish and Game Club and a member of the American Legion Scarbrough Post 243 in Galion. He enjoyed competition skeet shooting and won many trophies and titles. Bill enjoyed fishing and hunting and was a devoted husband.
He is survived by one brother and sister-in-law, James and Doris Montgomery of Cocoa, Fla.; one sister and loving caregiver, Janell Holcomb of Pontotoc, Miss.; one sister-in-law, Janet Ratliff of Mansfield; two nieces, Paula Busler of Galion and Wilma (Frank) Reynolds of Mansfield; two nephews, R. Lee (Rosemary) Jolley of Johnsville and William Holcomb of Mississippi and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by infant brother, William Coz Montgomery Jr., brother, Thomas Eugene Montgomery and brother-in-law, Troy Holcomb.
Friends may call from one hour prior to services from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 23, 2013 at Richardson-Davis Funeral Home where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 23, with Rev. Joe Stafford officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery.
Full military graveside honors will be conducted by the United States Army and the Galion/Crestline Veterans Military Funeral Detail.
