James E. Tucker, 83, of Galion, died Sunday, June 22, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family, after a short illness.
James was born in Galion, on September 29, 1930 to the late Floyd and Nellie (Horton) Tucker. He married Joyce I. Wilson on March 6, 1965 and she survives him.
He was a graduate of Galion High School, Class of 1948. James was employed for many years by the former Andrews Diary as a milkman, and then he worked at Cleland Manufacturing and retired from the City of Galion – Electric and Water Dept. He was instrumental in starting a union for the City of Galion and once ran for Mayor. James enjoyed the Cleveland Indians and the Browns. As a younger man, James used to race stock cars in Mansfield and coaching Little League Baseball in Galion. He enjoyed his garden, woodworking and building things. Spending time with his grandchildren was what James loved doing the most.
He is survived by five children: Thomas C. & Lydia Bauer, Troy, William M. Bauer, Galion, Christopher M. & Debbie Bauer, Galion, Debra K. Dicus, Galion and Robert & Melinda Bauer, Galion, his seventeen grandchildren, his twenty-four great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter, his three brothers Jack & Shirley Tucker, Sycamore, Ed & Marilyn Tucker, Blooming Grove, and Don & Betty Tucker, MI, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two granddaughters, his brother Michael Tucker, his sister Patricia Kocsovsky and infant sister Janet Tucker.
Friends may call Wednesday from 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, Galion. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, June 26, 2014 at the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, Galion, with Pastor David Davenport officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Galion.
