Janice L. Erkfitz, 53, Galion, went to be with the Lord Thursday, January 2, 2014 at her home after a sudden illness.
Born in Galion on July 29, 1960, she was the daughter of the late James W. and Joyce E. (Waggoner) Conley. She married John W. Erkfitz on August 8, 1982 and he survives her.
A Preschool Teacher at Sara Beegle Child Care, Janice took great joy in her work. This was more than just a job to her; it was her ministry. She enjoyed preparing the little ones for school and even taught Vacation Bible School at the daycare. Janice was a recent member of Lincoln Heights Baptist Church in Mansfield. Throughout the years, she was very active in the children's ministries in various churches. She was gifted and talented with her children's ministry and church work. A caregiver in every sense of the word, Janice was the primary caregiver for her father through his illness until he passed away. Every Saturday for 13 years, she took her mother shopping. Even with a painful illness, Joyce looked forward to those mother-daughter shopping trips. This past summer, Janice enjoyed tending to the vegetable garden in her backyard. She also enjoyed listening to Christian music.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Jonathan Erkfitz, her daughter, Jessica Erkfitz, both of Galion; her brother, James and Roberta Conley of Covington, OH; and her sister, Diane and Dennis Ervin of Shelby.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James W. and Joyce E. (Waggoner) Conley.
Friends may call Sunday, January 5, 2014 from 2:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. at the Lincoln Heights Baptist Church, 512 North Stewart Rd., Mansfield, where funeral services will follow at 3:30 PM on Sunday with Pastor Mike Wilson and Pastor Lawrence Combs officiating.
