Shirley Whisler (Miller) Craner(1936 - 2014)

Shirley Whisler Craner, 77, of Galion died Saturday morning, March 1, 2014 at Grant Medical Center in Columbus after a lengthy illness.

Born August 24, 1936 in Cleveland to Dale William Miller and Gertrude Katherine (Dicus) Miller she married Donald F. Craner October 19, 1973 and he survives.

Shirley graduated from Lexington High School in 1954 and was proud to have served with the United States Marine Corps for 32 years serving as secretary to the Assistant Secretary of the Navy. She and Don resided is Las Vegas and Paso Robles, CA and returned to the Galion area in 2003.

The highlight of her life was anything that had to do with animals. She enjoyed listening to audio books, playing cards, tennis and golf. She and Don were very active in the Elk's Lodge while living in California.

In addition to her husband, Don, she is survived by step-son, Kyle "Steve" (Debra) Craner of Holt, Fla.; sisters-in-law, Miriam Craner Johnson and Betty Craner (Fred) Sargel and her care givers, Amy Hart and Nancy Mousseau all of Galion and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by sisters-in-law, Virginia Wiley and Lucille Craner.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at Snyder Funeral Home Richardson Davis Chapel in Galion where services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 6, 2014 with Rev. Matt Wheeler officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Galion.

Military graveside services will be conducted by the United States Marine Corps and Galion Crestline Veterans Military Funeral Detail.
