Charles W. Charlie Evans, age 74, of Mount Gilead, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday afternoon, November 17, 2012, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Charlie was born in Portsmouth, Ohio, on February 6, 1938, the son of the late Maxwell C. and Mildred (Boggs) Evans. He grew up on a farm and graduated from Chesterville in the Class of 1956. He also attended the University of Illinois.
On June 4, 1977, Charlie married Catherine Kay Vaughan at the Community United Methodist Church in Marion. Together they shared over 35 wonderful years of marriage.
Charlie began his career working for North Electric in Galion. He then moved to Illinois and was employed by Magnavox. After moving back to Morrow County, he got a job with Race Motors as a salesman, working his way up to being the used car manager. He then opened up his own repair shop, CWE Repairs, where he retired from in 1993. In 1998, Charlie and Kay opened up their own craft shop, The Flower Bin.
Charlie was the founder of the Angel Wheels Car Club, on the board of Headwaters Outdoor Education Center, and a member of the NHRA 100 MPH Club.
He shared his love of the Lord as a long time member of the Community United Methodist Church, now the Crosswood United Methodist Church in Marion. He served as a trustee for many years in the church.
Cars were a huge part of Charlie?s life. He was a Chrysler man through and through, and a Mopar expert. He was a perfectionist any time he worked on a car. He also loved riding snowmobiles, working on his property, and going to auctions.
Charlie will always be remembered as a quiet, determined man with a strong work ethic. The love he shared with his family and friends will never be forgotten.
He will be dearly missed by his wife, Kay (a former teacher at Northmor), of Mount Gilead; six children: Mark (Barb) Evans of Cardington, Christine (Scott) Lodge of Mount Gilead, Judy (Russ) Klein of Westerville, Beth Tackett of Delaware, Timothy Evans of Crestline, Troy Evans of West Virginia; 15 grandchildren; one great grandchild; two sisters: Betty (John) Quinn of Cardington, Edie (Gary) Baker of Marion; and a special member of the family, Sherry Klingel of Mount Gilead.
The Evans family will greet friends from 4- 7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel, 67 N. Main St., Mount Gilead. Services celebrating his life will be held there at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday with Pastor Joe Ziraldo and Rev. Daniel Kiger officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in Chesterville.
