Betty E. Shumate, 80, of 301 Helen Avenue, Crestline, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, June 13, 2013 at Galion Community Hospital, Galion.
Betty was born in Galion on February 21, 1933 to the late Lester H. Dewalt and Lenora M. Weldon Stevens. She married Ronald H. Shumate, Sr. on January 30, 1953 and he preceded her in death on October 23, 2012.
Betty was retired from ITT North after 24 years of service. She was very proud of her family. She enjoyed sitting on the front porch and working crossword puzzles. Betty also enjoyed watching TV, especially Steve Harvey, Ricki Lake, and Dr. Phil.
She is survived by her three children and their spouses, Veronica Polk of Galion, Ronald and Carol Shumate, Jr. of Crestline, and Vickie and Chris Zarebi of Galion; her seven grandchildren, Tim Jacobs, Jr., Matthew Polk, Lenora (Ken) Morse, Jamie Graska (Tom Lenahan), Stacy Shumate, Chelsea Chafin, and Christina (Jimmy) Petty; great-grandchildren, Brenton Graska, Thomas Lenahan, and Connor Lenahan; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Lester and Donna Dewalt of Galion, Richard and Jackie Dewalt of Mansfield, Walter Stevens of Galion, and Larry and Cecil Casto of Clearwater, FL, sister-in-law, Peggy Shumate, FL, brother-in-law, Wilbur J. and Ruby Petty, Galion, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Ronnie Dewalt and Donald and Pauline Dewalt, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Roy Shumate, David Shumate, Katie Hill, and Nellie and Phil Lewis.
