Beverly Blum McCrory, Beloved wife of Michael and loving Mother to Caitlin and Rachael, passed on January 14, 2014, at her home in Brighton.
Beverly, or Bev as she was more fondly known, came into this world on November 16, 1948; she is a daughter to the late Woodrow Walker and Mary Landis Blum, sister to Patricia Dissett, Diana Crall, Debra Blum-Sizemore, and aunt to 6 nieces and nephews and thirteen great nieces and nephews.
To say Bev was an avid gardener is an understatement; she had the Midas touch, only it was to turn anything green. Aside from gardening, Bev and Mike were avid roadtrippers, crossing the country from Texas (numerous trips to both visit and move the girls), New Mexico, and Ohio to visit extended family and collect numerous antiques. Bev also had a love for historic houses; she and Mike have, together, restored three Victorian-era houses in Denver and Brighton.
Not only did Bev actually get her hands dirty managing repairs with Mike, she took care of the business side of things, as Mike preferred to pass along those tenant complaints to her. Bev remained active taking care of the houses and gardens, even to her final weeks of life, still fighting and always hanging on to the attitude that she "did not invite this disease in so she was not going to be a good host!" Since the initial, and shocking, diagnosis of cancer in late August, Bev had survived 2 brain surgeries, thirteen radiation treatments, and 3 rounds of chemotherapy; a feat wondrous enough, but then add in the fact that Bev was back walking 2 miles a day at the gym with Mike, only a mere week after the first brain surgery.
The loss of Bev for her family and those who loved her is, without words, heartbreaking; Bev will always be remembered for her infectious smile, her contagious laugh, and her generous spirit.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a contribution be made to University of Colorado Hospital's Infusion Center Garden Fund. Please make checks payable to University of Colorado Hospital and place "In memory of Bev McCrory" in the memo line. Mail to University of Colorado Hospital Foundation, 12401 E. 17th Avenue, Mail Stop F485, Aurora, CO 80045.
Bev will be cremated and her ashes taken to Fairview Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM, where her urn will be buried with Michael's parents and sister, and ultimately, Michael.
A Memorial Service for Bev will be held, Friday, January 17, 2013, at 2:00pm at the First Presbyterian Church in Brighton, CO, 510 S. 27th Avenue, Brighton 80601.
