Dan Thomas Nichols died peacefully at his home in Akron on September 8, 2013 at the age of 72.
Dan was born in Galion to Russell and Sally Nichols. He was a 1959 graduate of Galion Senior High, and went on to earn bachelor's and master's degrees from Ohio University, where he was the first to portray the Bobcat mascot at sporting events. He later worked as a principal in elementary schools in Stow and then as the dean of students at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School in Akron. In his final chapter, Dan braved the indignities of brain cancer with quiet courage.
