Evelyn M. (Lutz) Shifley, 79 of rural Bucyrus passed away on Thursday at home, her death was unexpected. Evelyn was born Aug. 5, 1933 in Bucyrus Twp., Crawford Co., OH to the late Dale and Bertha (Clary) Lutz. She was married May 12, 1957 to John W. Shifley who preceded her in death March 13, 2000. Evelyn was also preceded in death by three brothers, Richard Dale, Clifford , and Russell, as well as two sister in laws Margaret and Mary Lutz.
Evelyn is survived by children; Randall (Sarah) Shifley, Bucyrus; Lendon (Rhonda) Shifley, Bucyrus; Darin (Alice "Nit") Shifley, Thailand; Diana (Jeff) Erwin, Tiro; grandchildren, Kindall and Dana Shifley both of Chicago; John Shifley and fiance Kimberly of NC; Ryan Shifley, Findlay; Kylene (Michael) Clark, Shakopee MN; Courtney (Sidney) Ellis, Sheffield Village, OH; Derek Erwin and fiance Shelly, Columbus; Blaine Erwin, Columbus; and Tyler Erwin of Tiffin; 2 great grandchildren Kyrah Webster and Mariah Ellis; brother Warren Lutz, Bucyrus and sister in law Lou Lutz, Marion.
Evelyn was the valedictorian of the Mt. Zion Class of 1951 and received her Assoc. Degree in Business Administration from Findlay College. She was a member of the Kirkpatrick Church of Christ and served as Sunday School Teacher, Secretary, Pianist and Choir Director. Evelyn was Treasurer of the Mt. Zion Alumni Assoc. and former member of the Mt. Zion Grange and Mothers Roundtable Club. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and a 4-H advisor. For 3 years she taught Religous Education at Fairway School in Bucyrus. She worked in the offices of Timken, Galion Iron Works, Perfection Steel Body and the Galion Inquirer. For many years Evelyn farmed with her husband and children and worked at different times as a bookkeeper at Special Packaging, Inc., Norton's Flowers, Art's Dental Lab Office, and Hemmerly's Flowers. Evelyn was also an election precinct worker for and sold World Book Encyclopedies for over 20 years. Most recently Evelyn was active with the Silver Sneakers Exercise Class at the YMCA.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 am in the Kirkpatrick Church of Christ with Don Kelley, Minister as the officiant, burial will be in Caledonia Cemetery. Friends may call at the Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home on Monday from 3-7 pm. The family suggests memorials be made to the Kirkpatrick Church of Christ or the Donors Choice
